Training Conferences in Malawi and Zambia

During April 2005 Chris Embleton-Smith, one of PTI's Trustees, visited Zambia to meet with our local contacts and make further practical arrangements for the planned training conferences. This trip has proved vital in cementing PTI's relationship with the key Zambian pastors who will help to co-ordinate the training.

PTI have been involved with four pastors' conferences during 2005. The Malawi conferences were organised and run in co-operation with Zambesi Mission and the Evangelical Association of Malawi, who have enthusiastically initiated similar conferences for the past three years. PTI is committed to such co-operative projects, and appreciates the privilege of fellowship in the Gospel with like-minded agencies.

The conference in Petauke was organised by, and held at, Covenant Theological College, who are now keen to make this an annual event.

The Kasama conference was the first to be initiated and organised wholly by PTI, through the local leadership team - Peter Kaluba, Mpundu Chanda and Lemmy Chilekwa.

Conference Syllabus
The Blantyre and Dedza conferences used the same syllabus and format, starting with a time of prayer and worship, plenary sessions in the morning and evening, and group workshops in the afternoon. The day would normally begin at 7:30am and finish at 8:00pm. The topics covered were:

  1. Exposition of the Epistle to Titus (Rev Timothy Alford)

  2. The Christian Ministry; including the call to the ministry, and the qualifications of a minister (Rev Andrew Docherty)

  3. Workshops on Justification, Sanctification and Election (based on studies in the Christian Handbook and the accompanying Workbook)

  4. Character study on Peter - 'The person that God uses' (Rev Timothy Alford)

  5. Devotional and topical sessions led by some of the local men, covering various subjects including AIDS and demonisation

The Petauke conference used the same syllabus, but with Timothy Alford teaching all the main sessions.

"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
2 Timothy 2:2
