Distance Mentoring Team

The distance mentoring work of PTI provides one-on-one help for pastors who have no opportunity to attend a training conference, and it is a means of assisting them in the understanding and application of the scriptures.

Distance mentoring is also available to those who have attended a training conference. It can help them to build on what they have learnt, and follow up on any questions that may have arisen during the conference.

We have a small team of people, usually current or retired pastors, who act as mentors:

Rev Bob Davey
Bob trained for the ministry under Dr Lloyd-Jones at Westminster Chapel, and has pastored FIEC churches in south London and village chapels in his native Cornwall. Since retirement, he is senior pastor of Looe Christian Fellowship in Cornwall. He also works regularly with churches in Namibia and Israel, writes, and since 2007 has been helping with PTI's mentoring programme.

Rev Norman Hopkins
Norman is a ‘Man of Kent’. He was converted in his late teens, then for 20 years he was an elder at Trinity Tenterden and exercised an itinerant ministry before taking a part time pastorate in East Kent. In 2006 he was called to minister at Strood EFC in North Kent. He is secretary of Kent Ministers and gives lectures to local history societies on his specialist subject Kentish Nonconformist History.

Norman and his wife Julia have four children and to date three grandchildren.

Rev Howard Stidwill
Howard was converted as a young man and after training at Oak Hill College he entered the Anglican ministry in Wimbledon, London. He then took on pastoral responsibilities at Trinity Road Chapel, London.

After a spell of teaching, he was appointed Pastor of a church in Dudley. Ill health later forced him to retire from full time ministry, although he continued as Associate Pastor at a church in Kidderminster.

Howard is now focussing his attention on serving the Lord with PTI. He and his wife Wendy have three children and seven (soon to be eight) grandchildren.

In 2009 John Grindell also joined the Mentoring team.

We also have a number of others who help to mark the completed workbooks: Bill Summers, Brian Thompson and Ros Norris. Brian Edmans also helps with marking answers to What the Scriptures Teach.
