Distance Mentoring
|
| |
PTI’s distance mentoring scheme can be an important means of building on the lessons learned during in-country courses. And for the many pastors who have not had the opportunity to attend a course, the scheme offers one-on-one help to assist them in their understanding and application of the Scriptures.
What does the Distance Mentoring scheme offer?
Pastors who apply for books are encouraged to first of all read What the Scriptures Teach, and then answer the questions at the end of the book. This enables us to assess their depth of Biblical understanding so that we can make the most suitable selection of follow-up books for them. We also believe that if brothers are prepared to work at and study this book, then they will gain benefit from studying the other books that we send.
Other men who have had a more thorough Bible College education are encouraged to read the Christian Handbook, and to complete the Workbook that accompanies it. This is a much more demanding project, but a number of men have completed this very well and show a great measure of understanding of the truths they have studied.
History of PTI's Distance Mentoring
PTI's distance mentoring was established by Gordon Oram, who remains fully involved in the work as well as serving on the Ministry Board. Gordon is assisted by a number of others who give valuable help in marking completed Workbooks.
Over the years, the team have been in contact with over 1650 pastors and church leaders in 26 countries, mainly in Africa but also South America, Asia and Europe. The Lord has graciously blessed this work to the benefit of many of these brothers, and given tremendous encouragement to us when they write to tell how their Christian walk and ministry has been helped. A few quotes will illustrate this:
”What the Scriptures Teach has blessed me very much. I was not only interested in answering the questions, but I was discovering the most important truth which has changed my thinking and understanding on biblical doctrines. The question also helped me very much in the way of studying the Bible with understanding. Because it is accurately presented, I have decided to be using the very book during our discipleship meetings.”
Pastor Chisenga Mbeule, Zambia
“The books you have sent me are very helpful. In preparing Bible Studies and sermons, I have found it easy from the books Let’s Study 2 Corinthians, Opening up Ephesians and Matthew.”
Pastor EF Kapambwe, Zambia
